Addiction doesn’t have prejudice. It can hit anyone, at largely anytime too. Many more people are struggling these days, with the opioid crisis going on in the USA, and filtering across the world.
It can be a difficult and dangerous time for many, with often people feeling like they have no escape. However, that isn’t the case and there are some incredibly inspiring stories out there about people that have come out of the other side.
Many entrepreneurs have suffered from addiction and entered recovery, going through drug rehab, getting clean and going on to have illustrious careers.
For anyone that is struggling, here are just a handful of inspirational people you should look up to give you the encouragement to get the help you need…
Richard Branson
Richard Branson is one of the most recognisable faces in the world. Founder of the Virgin Group, he’s spoken about his battle with addiction, facing challenges with both drugs and alcohol during his youth.
However, he turned his life around, creating a business empire that has dabbled in everything from space travel to record stores.
Duncan Bannatyne
Well known for his chain of health clubs and spas right across the UK, Duncan Bannatyne has also helped many other entrepreneurs through his time on Dragon’s Den. It may not have ended up so well for the Scottish businessman, however. During his early adulthood he had long battles with alcohol addiction, eventually turning to health and fitness, which then spawned his huge success as an entrepreneur.
Karren Brady
One of the most prominent female figures in football, Karren Brady is known as the First Lady of Football, but before rising to her current role as vice-chair of West Ham United, she did have problems with alcohol.
She has spoken out about addiction in the past, largely around the footballers that come through her door, noting the pressures that they face and what it can lead to.
Brandon Stump
Finally, heroin almost killed Brandon Stump multiple times. In fact, he overdosed 15 times and was disowned by his family. However, he sought out help and completely changed his life. Today, he’s the CEO of Charlie’s Chalk Dust, making tens of millions per year. But, most importantly, he shares his story and helps many others like him too.
He really is a true inspiration for anyone who wishes to get their life back on track.
